Meet the Wedding Party: Jenn

Posted: January 16th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: bridesmaids | No Comments »

maui2008-427Name: Jennifer Peitscher
Role: Bridesmaid
Why: Jenn is Brad’s sister and my partner in crime. I first met her when Brad and I went to visit her and her husband, Shane (and baby Liam), in Hawaii. She gave me a fresh lei and a big hug and we instantly started talking. Talk about a good first impression. Jenn is so awesome and we both share a love for laughing. Like the rest of my bridesmaids, she’s super laid-back, so I know I won’t have any crises as long as she’s around. Just like Kristel, I’m counting down the days until Jenn’s officially my sister.
Special duties: Representin’ the Peitscher family up front, serving as St. Louis and Davenport liaison pre-wedding, showing everyone how to party it up at the reception, letting me kiss Liam’s precious face as much as I want the day of the wedding, and having better hair than me.
Trivia: The obvious bit of trivia is that she and Shane lived on Maui for four years after they got married. Lesser-known trivia? The girl works Shutterfly like nobody’s business.

Meet the Wedding Party: Jessie

n207302339_31531708_7447Name: Jessie Rose Smith
Role: Bridesmaid
Why: As one of my beloved sisters, I couldn’t get married without her! Jessie is always available to listen and talk about Brad. In fact, before I met Brad, when he was only a name that Nate kept bringing up, I talked to Jessie about the set-up and she said, “I have a really good feeling about this! He could be The ONE!” What a smart girl. Jessie loves having fun and loves doing things for people, so I know she’ll be perfect to have close by on our big day. Mark my words, she’ll be the one to start the party at the reception!
Special duties: Dancing Queen. Also, telling me over and over again that I look really pretty the day of. I’ll also probably make her hold my dress while I go to the bathroom just because I know she’ll love talking about it later.
Trivia: Jessie is always thirsty right before she falls asleep. She would appreciate a glass of water if you wouldn’t mind getting up from bed and getting her one. Pleeeeaaaase.

Meet the Wedding Party: Jill

n1180920233_30084490_2366Name: Jillisa Lynn Smith
Role: Maid of Honor
Why: Jill (and my other sister, Jessie) is my best friend. She has the most amazing sense of humor, is incredibly insightful, and has the most compassionate heart and strongest sense of duty I’ve ever witnessed. She was the only sibling in the state when I met Brad and got to know him pretty well before the others came back from Colorado, so we figured she definitely needed the most front row of front-row seats to our nuptials. Plus, she’s super good at keeping me relaxed–a vital role in the hours before the wedding.
Special duties: The traditional stuff: holding my bouquet, holding his wedding band, straightening my dress. But the most important thing is the level of hilarity she’ll bring to the whole event. I’m counting on some funny nursing jokes.
Trivia: Jill’s superhero name (or ninja name, or Warcraft name, I don’t really know) is Black Lotus.

Bridesmaid Dresses: J. Crew

picture-1This weekend, my bridesmaids and I are trekking to Dillard’s, Von Maur, and Younkers to see what they might have for bridesmaid dresses. I did a little scoping yesterday and it looks like most of the department stores don’t have their spring stuff out yet, BUT J. Crew is beginning to get a little bit online. They have my green color! I’m pumped. This is just a sample, the green is also available in the super-pretty (and less expensive) silk chiffon.

I wore a silk chiffon dress from J. Crew when I was the maid of honor in my dear friend Keri’s wedding last summer and I loved it! It was lightweight, totally comfortable, and I can totally wear it again.

By the way, in case I haven’t shared it here yet, my  maid of honor is my sister, Jill. My sister Jessie and Brad’s sister Jenn are my two bridesmaids. I love them all!

Alternative Bridesmaid Dress

Bridesmaids dresses have definitely improved from the early 90’s but sometimes that aren’t as re-wearable as some brides may think. Today I was cruising around anthropologie.com where I found this adorable dress. Its simple enough to be a bridesmaid dress but it really is re-wearable. Branching out from the traditional bridesmaids dresses can also save big bucks. So head to the local mall before nailing down the perfect dresses…you never know what you’ll find!
