Brad and I are having bedding troubles–it’s hard to find pretty bedding in one place! We decided to forgo registering for bedding for now (other than some basic white sheets, if we can find ones we like at Dillard’s) and just buy what we like after the wedding.
Something cool we could put on our list (found via Apartment Therapy): an Icelandic Virtue Blanket. I guess the story goes that three virtue cloths from the early 18th century were discovered and put on display at the National Museum of Iceland. They belonged to three of four daughters of some prominent Icelandic artist. The girls supposedly embroidered the cloths with 10 virtues to have in their marriage (faith, humility, purity, etc.) as a good-luck token. His fourth daughter presumably didn’t embroider one, so she had a crappy marriage. Thankfully for this non-crafty bride, we can buy them already made for us. Hooray!

Confession: I’ve been looking at china patterns since I was about 12 years old. I just love the idea of formal china and setting the table for the holidays. So when Brad and I went to Dillard’s to pick our pattern, we definitely had drastically different enthusiasm levels (haha), but he provided invaluable design advice. We went with Lenox Tribeca. We both wanted a very understated pattern that we would love forever. I was leaning towards a slightly more graphic and trendy pattern (Lenox’s Murray Hill), but in the end I’m glad we chose this one. We can layer it with countless colors and patterns via table linens and chargers.
We set up our registry online (which was a breeze. I love the Internets), but the Bestie said she had an awesome experience with Dillard’s when she registered there (in person) for her wedding.
So what do you think? Did we make the right choice?

This week Brad and I have been registering like crazy (we already have a shower on the books–thanks Aunt Mary!). I tried to organize us ahead of time by sitting down with Brad and going over a registry list (I’ve been using a combo of the awesome one from Russell and Hazel, the Crate & Barrel guide, and the one at BHG.com). He has some stuff and I have a few random things so we went back and forth checking off what we really needed to get so we could blaze through the registering process (I highly recommend doing this). That list in hand, we settled on four places to register.
For him: Home Depot (we still have to make this stop)
For me: Dillard’s
For us: Crate & Barrel, Target
Earlier this week, we chose our everyday dish pattern, Crate & Barrel’s Aspen (shown in the picture). It was completely painless to set up our registry online. I added flatware and a gravy boat to it today.
Last night, we went to check out formal china patterns (more on that later) and then went to Target to fill in the meat and potatoes of our registry. Holy cow. It took us 2-1/2 hours and by the time we were done “gunning” things, we both had backaches. However, I was reminded of one of the many reasons I’m marrying Brad: He insisted we go aisle by aisle through the entire store so we made sure we didn’t miss anything. LOVE HIM. So organized. We probably skipped some of the stuff you’re supposed to register for, but we just thought about what we would really use and what we had space for in our cupboards.
