Ceiling Swag! And Other Stuff

Posted: January 29th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: random | No Comments »

Sorry about the lack of posts. This bride has been un-bridelike in wedding planning lately. We did go shopping for bridesmaid dresses and I think we’re close to a decision. Brad and I have been deep in conversation about the wedding invites. I think they’re going to be gorgeous! He walked me through his plan for them a few nights ago and it’s so exciting to see how they’re taking shape.

One fun bit of news: Our ceiling swag arrived in the mail yesterday. Pictures to come.

Oh, and I promise I’m working on that list of hotels in the area this weekend so family and friends can get crackin’ on their reservations.

Meet the Wedding Party: Max

Posted: January 16th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: groomsmen | 4 Comments »

picture-13Name: Max Edgar Linberg
Role: Ring bearer
Why: Um, SO CUTE. Brad and I sometimes babysit Max when we’re really lucky. We just love his adorable antics. He’s absolutely hilarious, so cute, and is just starting to talk. Nothing melts my heart like hearing, “Aunt Denanna! Aunt Denanna!” Would probably be my favorite Linberg if it weren’t for Brad. hee hee. Also, he’s Brad’s nephew.
Special duties: Look adorable and wear a mini tux even if it doesn’t have Spider-man on it.
Trivia: Max already knows most of his letters and can count to at least 10. He’s SO smart.

Meet the Wedding Party: Jed

Posted: January 16th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: groomsmen | 2 Comments »

n553165871_411188_2992Name: Jedidiah Scott Smith
Role: Groomsman
Why: Jed is my only brother and he is AWESOME. And, again, family is our top priority, so I was so excited that Brad asked Jed to stand up with him. Jed is so easygoing it’s almost a crime (basically, we picked our entire wedding party based on how phenomenally laid-back everyone is). Plus, he’s been in tons of weddings, so he’s the old pro. We’ll be looking to him for advice (and to keep the music going at the reception).
Special duties: Looking dang good in a tux, bringing style and class to the whole event, and serving as a visual reminder to my dad that someone will carry on the Smith name.
Trivia: Oh, there’s so much I could say. Let’s go with this: In the future, my brother plans on buying a bulldog and naming her Midge. (I think it’s Midge. Whatever it is, it’s the cutest idea ever.)

Meet the Wedding Party: Jenn

Posted: January 16th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: bridesmaids | No Comments »

maui2008-427Name: Jennifer Peitscher
Role: Bridesmaid
Why: Jenn is Brad’s sister and my partner in crime. I first met her when Brad and I went to visit her and her husband, Shane (and baby Liam), in Hawaii. She gave me a fresh lei and a big hug and we instantly started talking. Talk about a good first impression. Jenn is so awesome and we both share a love for laughing. Like the rest of my bridesmaids, she’s super laid-back, so I know I won’t have any crises as long as she’s around. Just like Kristel, I’m counting down the days until Jenn’s officially my sister.
Special duties: Representin’ the Peitscher family up front, serving as St. Louis and Davenport liaison pre-wedding, showing everyone how to party it up at the reception, letting me kiss Liam’s precious face as much as I want the day of the wedding, and having better hair than me.
Trivia: The obvious bit of trivia is that she and Shane lived on Maui for four years after they got married. Lesser-known trivia? The girl works Shutterfly like nobody’s business.

Meet the Wedding Party: Nick

Posted: January 16th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: groomsmen | No Comments »

nickName: Nick Linberg
Role: Groomsman
Why: Nick is Brad’s older brother, a huge Star Wars fan, and overall great guy. He and his wife, Kristel, have us over a lot and let us watch their mega-adorable son, Max (our ring bearer). There are so many reasons to have Nick up front with us: He’s so laid-back and so cool, he’s family and we can’t do this without family, and Kristel’s plan is to tell Max, “walk to Daddy!” to get the little guy to run up front. We NEED him. Let’s take a second to give Kristel a shout-out! She’s so awesome and I can’t wait until we’re sisters, too!
Special duties: Ring bearer wrangling and guarding Brad’s Corvette (our getaway car).
Trivia: Researches purchases for months, maybe years, before buying. Must be a family trait. hee hee.

Meet the Wedding Party: Jessie

Posted: January 16th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: bridesmaids | No Comments »

n207302339_31531708_7447Name: Jessie Rose Smith
Role: Bridesmaid
Why: As one of my beloved sisters, I couldn’t get married without her! Jessie is always available to listen and talk about Brad. In fact, before I met Brad, when he was only a name that Nate kept bringing up, I talked to Jessie about the set-up and she said, “I have a really good feeling about this! He could be The ONE!” What a smart girl. Jessie loves having fun and loves doing things for people, so I know she’ll be perfect to have close by on our big day. Mark my words, she’ll be the one to start the party at the reception!
Special duties: Dancing Queen. Also, telling me over and over again that I look really pretty the day of. I’ll also probably make her hold my dress while I go to the bathroom just because I know she’ll love talking about it later.
Trivia: Jessie is always thirsty right before she falls asleep. She would appreciate a glass of water if you wouldn’t mind getting up from bed and getting her one. Pleeeeaaaase.

Meet the Wedding Party: Nate

Posted: January 16th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: groomsmen | 3 Comments »

n34000395_31764095_5541Name: Nathan Becker
Role: Best Man
Why: If you haven’t heard the story, Nate’s the guy that begged/pleaded/arranged for Brad and me to meet. For that, we owe him everything. He also makes an amazing meal called Hot Pot (along with his gorgeous and amazing fiancee, Tida) that is reason enough to suck up to him for the rest of our lives. He’s also one of Brad’s closest friends.
Special duties: Being awesome and dancing a lot at the reception. And not losing my wedding band. And calming Brad down if he needs it (which I doubt, Brad’s always calm. Not like me).
Trivia: Nate owns a huge Pez dispenser collection. And Tida encourages it! (I told you she was amazing.)

Meet the Wedding Party: Jill

Posted: January 16th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: bridesmaids | No Comments »

n1180920233_30084490_2366Name: Jillisa Lynn Smith
Role: Maid of Honor
Why: Jill (and my other sister, Jessie) is my best friend. She has the most amazing sense of humor, is incredibly insightful, and has the most compassionate heart and strongest sense of duty I’ve ever witnessed. She was the only sibling in the state when I met Brad and got to know him pretty well before the others came back from Colorado, so we figured she definitely needed the most front row of front-row seats to our nuptials. Plus, she’s super good at keeping me relaxed–a vital role in the hours before the wedding.
Special duties: The traditional stuff: holding my bouquet, holding his wedding band, straightening my dress. But the most important thing is the level of hilarity she’ll bring to the whole event. I’m counting on some funny nursing jokes.
Trivia: Jill’s superhero name (or ninja name, or Warcraft name, I don’t really know) is Black Lotus.

Pre-Marital Counseling: What I’ve Learned

Posted: January 13th, 2009 | Author: thebride | Filed under: random | 7 Comments »

51btxeyrtgl_bo2204203200_pisitb-sticker-arrow-clicktopright35-76_aa240_sh20_ou01_1My parents gave us four books on marriage for Christmas (just a small selection of their favorites): 10 Great Dates Before You Say I Do, Love & Respect, Sacred Marriage, and one other book I can’t remember so Mom or Dad will have to comment and remind me. Brad and I have been going through the 10 Great Dates book, mostly while driving back and forth to visit family. So, here it is, the top five things I’ve learned (mostly about myself) after going on 5-1/2 “dates” with my future husband:

5. I’m a saver. On one of the dates, we had to place ourselves on a continuum of opposing points of view. For example: people-lover…………loner (those aren’t the exact words). I was solidly on the “saver” side of the money continuum, while Brad fell in the conservative “careful spender” category. This explains why I freak out about the cost of buying a bag of apples and why Brad spends months researching Corvette tires online.

4. Other people fight about ridiculous things (according to the examples in the books). Like whether to put the ketchup in a dish or just put the bottle on the table at dinner. This isn’t even an issue for us because ketchup has high fructose corn syrup in it and therefore is not allowed at our meals.

3. I have a lot of emotions wrapped up in doing laundry as a kid. We were going through the “leaving and cleaving” chapter discussing the habits and patterns of behavior we each picked up from our “family of origin.” It was very informative. While telling the story of the infamous chore chart that my dad made and explaining the laundry system and how I always got to do my load of laundry first, I started laughing uncontrollably, so much that I started crying. I don’t think Brad got it.

2. We really like one another. Not just love, but like. As in, we enjoy being in the same room with one another, even if we’re not talking or doing anything together. We think the other person is probably the coolest, most interesting, most hilarious person on the planet. We both feel lucky that we even met and got to know one another, much less be joined in holy matrimony for the rest of our lives (we win!).

1. It’s not my job to take out the trash. This was a revelation to me. Again, going through the “leaving and cleaving” chapter and talking about chores, I told Brad that it was always my brother’s job to take out the trash. I don’t think I took the trash out more than a handful of times before I moved into my apartment. Brad said, “Is that why you never take it out now?” (Internet: I confess, I’m so bad about remembering to take my trash out. I feel like I can alway squeeze one more thing in and then maybe the whole bag will just magically go away.) So the answer is YES, that’s why! I subconsciously think it’s not my job and someone will take care of it for me. I know what you all are thinking: This is the part where BTP sweeps in and says, “That’s ok, I’ll take it out for you all the time, you’ll never have to worry about it again.” Wrong. He said, “Well, it will be super easy at my house, because the garbage is right through the garage door. It’s only about four steps. Won’t be a problem for you.” That is why I love him. He makes me a better person.
